Origin
Sunset – Coromandel Harbour
Travel up the Thames Coast road on the Western side of the Coromandel Peninsula, passing various bays such as Waiomu, Tapu and Manaia. Eventually, one reaches the brow of the hill overlooking Coromandel Harbour.

A picturesque sight for me, especially at sunset, when I saw the harbour for the first time. Everything was golden and red in the last rays of the sun, and one could see islands in the distance.

Pohutakawa trees were in blossom and the harbour had a silvery pink sheen across the water. The sky shimmered pink and cream – a wonderfully tranquil part of the Coromandel Peninsula.

In December, our summertime, the Pohutakawa Festival celebrates the red blossoms of the ancient New Zealand trees that line the Thames coastline.
