One
of the most spectacular peaks of the Coromandel Ranges is Castle
Rock.( 1709ft high) a volcanic remnant that dominates the skyline. Shrouded
in Maori legend it is shown here rising above the volcanic plateau,
dominant and fearsome, shimmering in the heat of the sun. Standing
high over Coromandel Harbour, it acts as a beacon for boats sailing
from Auckland. |
