Lake Harris, in the Mt Aspiring National Park, has been viewed here from the Routeburn Track, which is a world renowned tramping track in new Zealand.

Siliceous schists are widespread around Lake Harris; these are foliated rocks showing layers of different minerals. The colours are creamy white, pink, grey, and green. The rock is split into thin irregular plates, consisting of quartz and sandstone..The effect is one of incandescence.These glowing mineral rocks surround the blueness of Lake Harris, giving an out-of-this-world character to the landscape.
