flower gardens have a special serenity and elegance. I like the fragility and transparency of the
peony against the clarity of sculptural and highly textured
green leaf forms. Perhaps the essence in the painting of these flowers
is one of understatement, rather than high definition. Each
species of flower needs a different approach; an assessment
of it's particular characteristics, rhythm, structure and
colour density, against the unity of the whole. |
