Origin
In Te Kauri Park, Kawhia, there are kamahi trees which grow to 25 metres in height.  Their growth is twisted and contorted, as they reach towards the light.

The park contains various New Zealand bird species – the kereru (wood pidgeon), kingfisher, tui and the bellbird; and was once the preserve of kiwis and the kokako parrot; a very ancient place, containing ferns that date back 200 million years.
