Origin
The trans-alpine fault forms the rugged Westland coast. Pine trees are numerous along the Fiordland coastal region. This tramper's hut is located on the western side of the New Zealand Southern Alps.

The huts are viewed as an integral part of our recreational heritage, and are frequently used by trampers. There are around one hundred and forty huts in Westland. Shown amongst mountain scenery they are picturesque, and connect tracks and bridges in the area. Also shown is the Western Weka, a flightless protected bird from this region of New Zealand.
