Origin The huts are viewed as an integral part of our recreational heritage, and are frequently used by trampers. There are around one hundred and forty huts in Westland. Shown amongst mountain scenery they are picturesque, and connect tracks and bridges in the area. Also shown is the Western Weka, a flightless protected bird from this region of New Zealand.
