Origin
Traditionally,
an artist begins learning by drawing and painting a still-life work.
It offers concepts of design and colour, composition, structure and
form, perspective and "chiaroscuro",
or the study of light and shade. Now, I paint and enjoy a still-life
for it's own sake. "Belshazzar" is a joyful, positive piece; it
contains sumptuous colour, simple design concepts, and rhythm
and flow of both colour and alternating geometrical elements. The
pottery pieces, from a collection and assortment I have for
my own use in the studio, are generous and
expansive in form. The addition of white adds a little
touch of whimsy!
