Origin
The
Fall River Legend ballet was first danced in 1948 in New York. It is a fine example of ballet theatre. Modern
and contemporary, it is danced in a stark setting. The music,
by composer Morton Gould, is dramatic and intense. In the choreography,
by Agnes de Mille, the dancers tell a dark, tragic story, using broad
swirling movements. I made many small drawings of this ballet,
and in the above work I have combined two of the ;movements
into one sequence.
