Origin
Serenity
and tranquility, combined with the vitality of growing forms, are the main qualities contained in
this study of a young woman.
The concept of portraiture in painting
is timeless; some
include the background as it relates to the person, while others
concentrate just on the head and facial characteristics. I usually like
to include a background. Other portrait works
I have painted can be seen in Galleries 5 and 2, and "Tarawera" in
Gallery 1. In the above work the shape and flow of the folds
in the model's dress, is echoed by the shape of the foliage. No
one part of the work intrudes on the other; the colours and
shapes are equally balanced.
