In the above painting, I have used the mosaic as a basis for design; each facet is enclosed with a dark outline. Mosaic art means the fragmenting of all parts of the design into a unified composition. This method, first used by the Egyptians in 2000 BC and later by the Romans, was also used by Louis Comfort Tiffany from 1880, in the manufacture and leadlighting of glass into lampshades and vases.
The buildings and trees in the painting have been reduced to a simple schematic design, allowing the colourful mosaic qualities of the work to predominate. Other facets support and complement these aspects.
