Origin
The Pacific Islands of Polynesia and Melanesia have a tradition of using bark-cloth made from the bark of the mulberry or breadfruit tree, to decorate their homes, their clothes, for art and craft,and for export. Each area has their own distinctive designs.

Tonga produces the greatest quantity of barkcloth from the Pacific Islands. The designs commemorate important ceremonies such as weddings, funerals. Tonga being a monarchy, it is used also for royalty events

I have incorporated some of these designs into the painting above.
