Origin
Though this work could be entitled “Mother and Child”, the double portrait shows two distinct
personalities; the child looks directly at the photographer, while the mother Sophia looks away
slightly. Nonetheless, both have strong personalities, yet share a family bond. I enjoyed painting
the fashions of the 1910 – 1912 era in New Zealand. Sophia has a lace collar, which in those days,
was often hand embroidered. |
