Origin
Paintings of the standing nude are classic and timeless, from the fifteenth century onwards. Fine examples of this genre are found in the works of the old masters, and in art movements such as Impressionism, Pre-Raphaelite, Cubism and others.

In contrast to the previous two works, the "Standing Nude" above is more traditional and colours are kept to a minimum. A contrast in tone, or chiaroscuro, is used to bring drama and tonal contrast to the work.

I have worked within an oblong format, which dictates the proportions, stance and spatial concepts of the painting. The folds of drapery create a linear rhythm, which follows through the contours of the model's arms, curve of the thigh, and of the torso.
