Origin The vegetation seemed to have many possibilities in terms of development, and contained strange shapes, varying in colour and density. In the end, the painting progressed to become The Apparition Sometimes I allow a work to present itself and become what it may; only interfering with the creative process to give the composition structure, so that it hopefully may be understood by the viewer. As the creator of such a work, I enjoy standing back to allow a painting to evolve. Only when it has announced itself will I tidy up any loose ends, so to speak. Another work, relating to the same series, came to being in this way - Matataki Reclining Nude in Gallery 5. I remember the feeling of myself being an accessory after the fact. As I worked, the person appeared, though of course, only in two dimensions.
