This is one of two evocative panel paintings, that illustrate the sub-tropical nature of certain plant forms in New Zealand. Using a loose and impressionist brush technique, layers of paint are built up over a dark background. This method contrasts with the linear, transparent and iridescent leaf and vine forms.
It is a deceptively simple but expressive work.
