Origin
Looking over from a high vantage point , and on the other side of the Waikato River, is the suburb of Hamilton East; an older part of the city. I sketched this scene first as a drawing, then a photo, followed by this painting.

The bare tree trunks act as a frame and enclose the houses seen in the distance, amongst trees and bushes on a slight hill. The age of the houses would date from the 1940s, with their russet coloured roofs and single chimney pots.
