Origin
Some parts of the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand are mysterious and threatening - the concentration of trees and vegetation is dense in some areas, and combining this factor with deepening shadows at various times of the day, the fungal forms, and even the bole of a tree - appears to make deep pockets of vegetation dark and sombre.

However, the colour, exotica and abundance of cabbage and ancient pohutukawa trees, woodland and plant life predominates, leaving the foliage with a delicate luminosity. The impressions I have gained are lasting, and I can instantly recall a place, or a moment in time when painting in the Coromandel.
