Origin
I
have used a tondo or circular canvas for this painting of Etruscan
Dancers; the image originated from an incised bronze mirror of the
early 5th century BC in Etruria, Italy. Mirrors formed part of a woman's bridal endowment and
were also placed in her tomb upon her death. Grecian themes
predominated during the Classical period from 490 - 300BC. Some
features, such as the feet, are elongated. Although the
mirror is an antique from the Munich Museum, the concept and design
is modern and contemporary in it's use of space and line. The whole
work has a vitality and grace that is ageless.
