Origin
For
some years I have been interested in Roman and Etruscan art. This goddess, or votive offering,
is painted from a bronze statuette of the Etruscan period of 2BC
from Volterra, Rome. This is where the style of elongation
of figures began. It was also called the Hellenistic
period, when Etruscan art forms were influenced
by Greece. The simple yet effective design of the work has impact
and drama, yet is delicate and surreal. Although it is one of
the gems of antiquity, it is also contemporary and geometric,
with a simplified, stylized form; and it has tremendous dignity
and presence.
