Origin
King Ptolemy VIII was a king of the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt, between 145 – 116 BC. In this painting he wears the double crown of Egypt, which comprises the Red Crown of Lower Egypt, and the White Crown of Upper Egypt.

The Goddesses of Upper and Lower Egypt, Nekhbet and Wadjet, install and crown the king as ruler of the two lands. This painting is based on a relief carving, located at Edfu on the Horus Temple, 130 BC.

Decorative borders and the colours used, such as red, black, ochre, blue and green, were used in most of the paintings of ancient Egypt; near the top of the work is a winged sun from an architrave in the temple of Amenophis II
